Before you submit a photo, read the guidelines
Before uploading a photograph to ARTFreeLife, you must read the guidelines below, at least the “Photography submission rules” section, which sets out the essential requirements you must follow. Your finest photographs deserve to endure: understanding the rules is the first step towards sharing them with our community. ARTFreeLife is an international space dedicated to quality photography, entirely free of charge and with no commercial purpose. Its sole aim is to recognise and celebrate the most beautiful and deserving images, giving them attention, editorial care and visibility that lasts. We believe that a photograph capable of moving people deserves to be encountered, observed and rediscovered. That is why we also give space to older work: the value of an image does not end at the moment of publication. Share your vision. On ARTFreeLife, photographs continue to live.
- Each author may submit only one photograph per day.
- A second photograph may be submitted solely to correct an upload error.
- The file size must not exceed 3 MB.
- The longest side of the image must not exceed 2000 pixels.
- Photographs must be presented without frames.
- Text or lettering that interferes with the viewing of the image is not permitted.
- Images generated through artificial intelligence prompts are not permitted. To learn about the criteria and provisions adopted by ARTFreeLife, please consult the policy on AI-generated images published in the official forum.
- Nude photography, including artistic nude photography, is not permitted.
- Photographs depicting minors will be carefully assessed by the editorial team.
- Systematically submitting two photographs per day in breach of the limit will result in both images being removed.
- Only real photographs with post-production consistent with the language of photography are permitted.
- Any other violation of the rules will result in the photograph being excluded from publication.
- Before or after uploading a photograph, authors are required to contribute to community life with at least 5 likes and 2 comments. Failing to meet this threshold results in a penalty to the submitted photograph’s score; meeting or exceeding it earns a positive bonus.
- Uploading images constitutes full acceptance of these guidelines. To request the removal of their photographs or deletion of their profile, authors must contact support exclusively by email at artfreelife@icloud.com.
- Submitted photographs are reviewed by the editorial team within approximately 12 hours.
- During preselection, the editorial team assigns each photograph a score from 1 to 5.
- The editorial score is supplemented by a score assigned by ARTFreeLife’s algorithm, which takes into account the author’s active participation in the portal. Publication follows these criteria:
- 5 editorial points: the photograph is always published.
- 4 editorial points: the photograph has a high probability of publication.
- 3 editorial points: the photograph is generally not published. It may be considered for publication only if the author has been very active on the site and has complied with every rule in the guidelines. Meeting these conditions does not guarantee publication.
- 1 or 2 editorial points: the photograph is not published.
- Highly rated photographs submitted by active authors also receive an editorial bonus. This bonus is added to voting scores and helps photographs progress through the subsequent Featured and ART Gallery selections.
- When editorial ratings are equal, photographs by active authors have absolute priority for publication.
- Photographs that pass preselection receive Curated status and are published on the Latest Photographs page. For each image, visitors can cast a vote by liking it, leave comments and download a cover to share on social media. The photograph’s statistics can be viewed at the top of its dedicated page.
- A random selection of newly published photographs is highlighted on the homepage. Further visibility on other pages of the portal is assigned according to the interest generated by the images.
- All published photographs marked as “Curated” take part in voting and selection for the Featured category.
- The most recent photographs enter the selection. The latest 24 publications are considered, excluding those already in Featured.
- The community participates through votes and comments. The “VOTE” button adds a like to the photograph. Anyone who has already voted cannot vote for the same image again. Comments also contribute to the score; the author’s replies on their own photograph are excluded from the count when recognised.
- Participation in community life also matters. A member’s activity before publishing their photograph may receive an additional recognition of 3% or 6%.
- The system recognises the rating assigned by the editorial team during preselection. A photograph rated 4 receives a 9% bonus once it reaches at least 8 likes and 3 valid comments; a photograph rated 5 receives a 15% bonus with at least 8 likes and 2 valid comments. The editorial assessment is thus confirmed by community participation: until these requirements are met, the photograph remains below the Featured entry threshold.
- Score reductions also apply. A rating of 3 entails a 5% reduction. This reduction applies after at least 4 likes and 2 valid comments. An AI-assisted editorial intervention may apply a further 10% reduction.
- The editorial team may award special recognition. A bonus of either 10% or 20% is available; these cannot be combined with each other. The system also includes a special 7% bonus and a “launch bonus”, which takes the score directly to 83.5 points.
- Entry into Featured is achieved at 83 points, shown as 83% on the progress indicator. This percentage expresses the photograph’s progress towards selection, not the proportion of users who have voted for it. Once the threshold is reached, the transition takes place automatically at the next update. The threshold may change according to editorial decisions.
- The time available depends on new publications. A photograph participates for as long as it remains among the latest 24 considered. A green dot identifies the most recent images; a red dot indicates those close to leaving the selection.
- Every photograph can reach the threshold. Entry into Featured depends on its overall score, without requiring first place in the ranking. Opening the image information allows you to view votes, comments, score and progress.
- Once the threshold is reached, the photograph enters the Featured category and is displayed on its dedicated page. It receives greater visibility on the homepage and social media and may be chosen for publication in the ARTFreeLife magazine.
- Entry into Featured also opens the path towards ART Gallery, the site’s most prestigious category: the photograph automatically participates in the next selection and voting stage.
- Selection and voting procedures may evolve over time. To find out about the current criteria and any updates, please consult the dedicated forum post.
- This is the final and most demanding step in the selection process, opening the doors to the prestigious ART Gallery category. Selected photographs will be displayed in ARTFreeLife’s art gallery and will appear in random rotation in the magazine. They will also feature in the site’s Virtual Museum at the time of publication and subsequently according to editorial decisions. They will be shared periodically on the homepage, including as cover images, and will receive greater visibility on the portal’s social media channels, with more frequent publication both as dedicated links and as covers.
- The selection involves 15 photographs from Featured. The candidates are updated from photographs in this collection, and the ranking highlights the six images with the highest scores.
- To vote, sign in to the site, visit the voting page and press “VOTE”. Each user may vote only once for each photograph. If you have already left a like on the original page, your vote is recognised and cannot be repeated. You can still contribute a comment, counted according to the rules below.
- Likes and comments contribute to the score. The value of likes increases progressively. For comments, only one contribution per person counts: 0.30 points for Member, 0.40 for Collaborative and 0.70 for Curator. The author’s comments on their own photograph are excluded.
- Participation can generate additional bonuses. Extra points accumulate from the tenth like onwards; reaching at least 17 likes and 7 different commenters earns another 2 points.
- The initial editorial rating also matters: a rating of 4 adds 2 points, while a rating of 5 adds 4. The author’s participation in the community may earn a further 2 points.
- The editorial team may apply bonuses or reductions. Score increases of either 20% or 40% are available, alongside a possible 40% increase applied only to comment points. The code also provides for penalties linked to the editorial rating.
- The entry threshold is 40 points, corresponding to 100%. Reaching it grants access to the final assessment: admission to ART Gallery also requires a favourable assessment of the work’s quality through the selection system, artificial intelligence and the editorial team.
- Voting remains open until the editorial decision. Scores and criteria may be updated during selection.
We believe in photography that endures.
ARTFreeLife was created to give space to the value of photographic art: images capable of raising questions, opening a dialogue and deserving fresh attention over time.
Every author contributes to this vision. A thoughtful comment, a considered like and attention to the work of others bring the community to life and build a shared photographic culture.
Our ambition is to grow, together with you, a website and magazine of international standing through the quality of the work, editorial care and depth of discussion.
We choose to give photographs the time they deserve. To return to images, rediscover authors and recognise the value of older work too. The date of publication does not exhaust what a work has to say.
ARTFreeLife is a shared commitment: to nurture our way of seeing, sustain talent and preserve photographs that deserve to endure.

02Quante fotografie posso inviare ogni giorno?
L’ulteriore visibilità nelle altre pagine del portale viene attribuita in base all’interesse suscitato dalle fotografie.
20Come viene riconosciuta l’attività dell’autore nelle Featured?
24Che cosa significa raggiungere l’83% nelle Featured?
29Come vengono conteggiati i commenti in ART Gallery?
39Come posso chiedere assistenza e in quanto tempo riceverò risposta?
01What is ARTFreeLife and who is it for?
ARTFreeLife is a free international platform dedicated to quality photography, with no commercial purpose. It welcomes authors who want to share real photographs and take part in an editorial selection process. The site, magazine and galleries give images lasting visibility, including older works that deserve renewed attention.
02How many photographs may I submit each day?
You may submit one photograph per day. Choose the work you wish to present and check the file before uploading it. Repeatedly submitting two photographs per day breaks the rules and results in both images being removed.
03May I submit a second photograph to correct an upload error?
Yes, a second submission is allowed only to correct an upload error. This exception is intended to resolve a problem with a submission; it does not allow authors to routinely submit two different works on the same day. Contact support if you are unsure how to correct an upload.
04What are the file size and image dimension limits?
Both limits must be met: a file size of no more than 3 MB and a longest side of no more than 2,000 pixels. For example, a 2,000 × 1,500 pixel photograph meets the dimension limit, but its file must also be 3 MB or smaller. Check both before submitting.
05May I add borders, text or lettering to a photograph?
Photographs must be submitted without borders. Text or lettering that interferes with viewing the image is not permitted. Prepare a file that presents the work clearly, without graphic elements that distract from its photographic content.
06Are AI-generated images allowed?
Images generated through artificial intelligence prompts are not permitted. ARTFreeLife accepts real photographs with post-production consistent with photographic expression. For the specific criteria, consult the AI-generated image policy.
07Is post-production allowed?
Yes, provided it remains consistent with photographic expression and the work is a real photograph. The guidelines do not list individual permitted tools or adjustments. For a specific case, consult the relevant forum policy or ask support for clarification before submitting.
08Are nude photographs or photographs of minors allowed?
Nude photography is not permitted, including artistic nudes. Photographs depicting minors are subject to careful editorial assessment. Submitting such an image does not automatically mean that it will be approved or published.
09What participation is required when I submit a photograph?
Before or after uploading, you are required to contribute at least 5 Likes and 2 comments to the community. This means your activity on other authors’ work, rather than votes received by your own image. Falling short leads to a score penalty for the submitted photograph; meeting or exceeding the requirement earns a positive bonus. The guidelines do not specify its amount here.
10What does uploading imply, and what happens if I break the rules?
Uploading a photograph means accepting the guidelines in full. Breaches of the submission rules result in the photograph being excluded from publication. Repeatedly submitting two images per day results in both being removed. Insufficient community participation is instead subject to the score penalty described in the participation rule.
11How long does editorial preselection take?
The editorial team reviews submissions within approximately 12 hours. This is an indicative review time, not a guarantee of publication. During this stage, the team assesses the work and assigns an initial rating, alongside the system’s contribution based on the author’s participation.
12How does the rating from 1 to 5 work?
5 points: the photograph is always published under the preselection criteria. 4 points: it has a high chance of publication. 3 points: publication is reserved for photographs by active authors. 1 or 2 points: the photograph is not published. Content and submission rules continue to apply.
13Why does the author’s activity affect publication?
A score reflecting the author’s active participation is added to the editorial assessment. Where editorial ratings are equal, active authors have absolute priority for publication. For photographs rated 3, activity on the platform is a condition of publication. Highly rated works by active authors also receive a bonus that contributes to later selections.
14What does Curated mean?
Curated identifies a photograph that has passed editorial preselection. It is published on the Latest photographs page and enters the voting and selection pathway towards Featured. Curated is the first recognition in the process, followed by Featured and ART Gallery.
15Where can I see statistics and share a published photograph?
On each photograph’s page, you can leave a Like, write a comment and download a cover to share on social media. Statistics appear at the top of the photograph’s page. During subsequent selections, the image’s information panel also lets you follow its score and progress.
16Does every newly published photograph appear on the Home page?
A random selection of newly published photographs is highlighted on the Home page. Publication therefore does not guarantee every image the same immediate exposure there. Additional visibility elsewhere on the platform is allocated according to the interest the photographs generate.
17Which photographs take part in Featured selection?
All published photographs marked Curated take part in the pathway towards Featured. The current selection considers the latest 24 publications, excluding photographs already in Featured. The candidate pool therefore changes as new images are published.
18How long does Featured selection last, and what do the coloured dots mean?
A photograph participates while it remains among the latest 24 publications considered. The available time depends on incoming publications, rather than a fixed number of days. A green dot marks the newest photographs; a red dot indicates those approaching the end of their time in the selection.
19How do votes and comments contribute to Featured selection?
The VOTE button adds a Like to the photograph. Each user may vote only once for the same image. Comments also contribute to the score; the photographer’s replies on their own image are excluded when identified. The overall result also takes account of bonuses and any editorial adjustments.
20How is the author’s activity recognised in Featured selection?
Community activity completed before publishing the photograph may receive an additional contribution of 3% or 6%. This specific Featured criterion concerns activity before submission. It differs from the general requirement of 5 Likes and 2 comments, which also allows participation after uploading.
21When does the bonus for a photograph rated 4 or 5 become active?
The system recognises the preselection rating. A photograph rated 4 receives a 9% increase after at least 8 Likes and 3 valid comments; one rated 5 receives a 15% increase after at least 8 Likes and 2 valid comments. Both requirements must be met. Until then, the photograph stays below the Featured threshold, unless a launch bonus is assigned.
22Can a photograph receive a penalty during Featured selection?
Yes. An initial rating of 3 results in a 5% reduction, activated after at least 4 Likes and 2 valid comments. An AI-assisted editorial intervention may apply a further 10% reduction. These adjustments affect the overall score and progress towards the threshold.
23What special contributions can editors assign in Featured selection?
Editors may assign a bonus of 10% or 20%; these two contributions cannot be combined. There is also a special 7% bonus and a launch bonus, which sets the score directly to 83.5 points. These are editorial interventions, not automatic benefits for every photograph.
24What does reaching 83% in Featured selection mean?
The threshold stated in the guidelines is 83 points, displayed as 83%. The percentage expresses progress towards selection, not the proportion of people who have voted for the image. Once the threshold is reached, the transition occurs automatically at the next update. Editors may change the threshold.
25Must I rank first to enter Featured?
No. Any photograph can enter Featured by reaching the required score: first place is not necessary. Open the photograph’s information panel to view votes, comments, score and progress. Ranking compares candidates with one another, whereas admission depends on the specified threshold.
26What opportunities does Featured offer?
The photograph is displayed on the Featured page, receives more visibility on the Home page and social media, and may be chosen for the ARTFreeLife magazine. It also enters the selection pathway towards ART Gallery, the site’s most prestigious category. These opportunities do not guarantee inclusion in every issue or space.
27How does a photograph enter ART Gallery selection?
The pathway begins with photographs already in Featured. The current selection involves 15 photographs from that collection and updates with the candidates. The ranking highlights the six highest-scoring images. This position reflects progress in the selection, but does not by itself constitute admission to ART Gallery.
28How do I vote for ART Gallery if I have already left a Like?
Sign in, visit the ART Gallery voting page and press VOTE. Each user may vote only once per photograph. A Like already left on the original page is recognised and cannot be added again. You can still leave a comment, subject to the rules for counting individual commenters.
29How are comments counted in ART Gallery?
Only one contribution per person counts for each photograph: 0.30 points for Member, 0.40 for Collaborative and 0.70 for Curator. Further comments by the same person do not increase the number of valid comments or their score. Comments written by the photographer on their own image are excluded.
30What participation bonuses are available in ART Gallery?
The value of Likes increases progressively, and extra points accumulate from the tenth Like. Reaching at least 17 Likes and 7 different commenters adds another 2 points. Both conditions must be met: multiple comments from one person cannot replace seven different commenters.
31Do the initial rating and the author’s activity also count in ART Gallery?
Yes. An initial editorial rating of 4 adds 2 points, while a rating of 5 adds 4 points. The author’s community participation may receive another 2 points. These are ART Gallery values and should not be confused with the percentage increases used in Featured selection.
32What editorial adjustments are available in ART Gallery?
Editors may award an increase of 20% or 40% on the score, plus a possible 40% increase on comment points only. Reductions linked to the editorial assessment are also possible. These adjustments contribute alongside votes and comments; the guidelines do not detail every penalty amount here.
33Does reaching 100% guarantee admission to ART Gallery?
No: 40 points correspond to 100% and qualify the work for the final assessment. Admission also requires a favourable quality assessment through the selection system, artificial intelligence and the editorial team. The 100% figure marks the score threshold, not an automatic guarantee of publication.
34When does ART Gallery voting end?
Voting remains open until the editorial decision. The guidelines do not set a fixed number of days. Scores and criteria may be updated during selection, so a photograph’s rank and displayed percentage reflect its current progress and may change before the final decision.
35Where are photographs admitted to ART Gallery published?
Selected works are displayed in the ARTFreeLife art gallery and appear in random rotation in the magazine associated with this pathway. They also appear in the site’s virtual museum at publication and subsequently at the editors’ discretion. This is the final and most demanding stage of the editorial process.
36What visibility do ART Gallery photographs receive?
Photographs are shared periodically on the Home page, including as cover images. They also receive greater exposure across the portal’s social media spaces, with more frequent posts as both dedicated links and covers. Scheduling remains an editorial choice: no fixed number of shares is specified for each work.
37What kind of participation does ARTFreeLife encourage?
ARTFreeLife encourages authors to look closely at others’ work, give thoughtful Likes and write considered comments. The aim is to build a shared photographic culture and meaningful discussion. This also includes older photographs: an image’s value continues over time and may deserve fresh interpretations and editorial attention.
38Can the rules change, and where can I find updates?
Yes. Selection methods, thresholds and criteria may evolve through editorial decisions. Consult the forum announcements and the dedicated Featured selection post. Before assessing a candidate’s result, check the latest guidance published by the platform.
39How can I request support, and when will I receive a reply?
For technical issues, support or clarification, email artfreelife@icloud.com. The guidelines specify a reply within 24 hours. To help the team assist you, describe the issue and include the relevant photograph or page link where appropriate. General information is also available in the forum.
40How do I request removal of my photographs or deletion of my profile?
Requests must be sent exclusively by email to artfreelife@icloud.com. Specify whether you wish to remove individual photographs or delete your profile, and provide the references needed to identify the request. The guidelines do not specify a completion deadline for removal; the 24-hour period refers to the support reply.
